Our Mission

To empower children of exceptional talent and potential from racially underrepresented and economically under-resourced communities in order to transform independent schools and society.

For almost 40 years, Independent School Alliance has assisted thousands of young people and their families in achieving their dream of quality education despite racial, cultural, and socioeconomic disparities. We stand firmly in the purpose of our mission that education is the antidote for the injuries of the world.

Independent School Alliance is a leading access organization in independent school admissions counseling and placement for students in grades K-9. Independent School Alliance recruits, educates, counsels, and advocates on behalf of families from racially underrepresented and economically under-resourced communities seeking to gain access to independent schools of Greater Los Angeles.

Our member schools educate the leaders of our city, state, and nation. Independent School Alliance students go on to attend some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the country. Through our collective work and shared goals with community partners nationwide, we endeavor to make the Independent School community reflect the diversity and cultural richness of the world outside its doors.  Through our initiatives, we fortify Independent School Alliance students with exposure to leadership and social-emotional development opportunities in order  to make our school communities places that educate the next generation of leaders to be better human beings.

We recognize our role as leaders, builders, connectors, and caregivers in the independent school community. We are equipped with the skills and experience to address and challenge the responses, practices, and policies in our schools and the broader community required to achieve equity. To make lasting systemic change, we, as a society, must invest our energy in deep, personal, individual work; and that energy must be amplified beyond the individual and interpersonal to institutional and structural levels of the system. With that aim, Independent School Alliance will continue the work of diversifying independent schools in the Greater Los Angeles area for 37 more years and beyond.

Independent School Alliance’s $1 million+ annual operating budget is supported by individual charitable contributions as well as the philanthropic initiatives helmed by our Board of Directors and Advisory Council. The Alliance is headquartered in Culver City, CA. Educational equity and access are our moral imperative.
