Admissions Process

Attend an Information Session

Our Admissions Team typically hosts Information Sessions throughout the Spring months at various Member School locations.  Though not a requirement to apply, we highly recommend attending an Information Session to learn more about our support programming, services, and Independent School Admissions Referral program.

  • 1. Inquire

    Before our application goes live, an inquiry form will become avaialble. It is essential to fill it out to learm more information on our organization, the application process, and about our upcoming events. 

    This step is required to access our online application.


  • 2. Independent School Alliance Application

     To begin the process, our inquiry form must first be completed.

    Our application goes live May 1st.

    Inclusion of the following documents will be needed with the application:
    • Pre- K – 1st Grade Applicants:
      • Most recent 1040 IRS tax returns including W2’s and all schedules, if applying for financial assistance*
    • 2nd Grade –5th Grade Applicants:
      • Report cards, grades, or progress reports with teacher comments from the past two school years.
      • Standardized test scores (CTBS, SAT, ERB, etc.), if available  from the past two school years.
      • Most recent 1040 IRS tax returns including W2’s and all schedules, if applying for financial assistance*
    • 6th Grade -12th Grade Applicants
      • Report cards, grades, or progress reports with teacher comments from the past two school years.
      • Standardized test scores (CTBS, SAT, ERB, etc.), if available  from the past two school years.
      • Most recent 1040 IRS tax returns including W2’s and all schedules, if applying for financial assistance*
      • Student Applicants are required to submit writing prompts
    Documents must be uploaded onto the applicant checklist.  Note that there can only be one document uploaded per checklist item.  If you have multiple documents to upload for a single checklist item, you will need to combine them into one PDF file.

    *If filed separately, submit documents for both
    parents/guardians


    APPLICATION DEADLINE: AUGUST 1st 
  • 3. Candidate Evaluation

    The Independent School Alliance Admissions Team will assess determine the applicant's eligibility and appropriateness for our Program.

    Applicants will be notified of decisions and next steps in the Fall.
  • 4. Mandatory Family Orientation

    Parent(s)/guardian(s) of accepted candidates will be required to attend a Family Orientation day. Dates are to be determined.
  • 5. Counseling Session

    Families will make appointments with admissions counselors according to instructions outlined in the decision notice. Counseling sessions are 90 minutes long, and there is a consultation fee of $250*.

    This is an opportunity for our counselors to get to know the student,suggest suitable school options, and address any questions or concerns related to the admissions, interview, or financial assistance Processes. 

    *The counseling fee has a sliding scale fee reduction program for those who qualify.
  • 6. School Visits & Interviews

    After receiving an application, schools will send families information directly regarding any or all of the following:
    • School tours
    • Parent interviews
    • Student interviews
    • Play dates
    • Shadow days
  • 7. Exam Registration

    The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) is required for most students applying for 5th grade and above.

    For students applying to grades K-1 in Pasadena, please register for the Integrated Learning Solutions (ISL) test.

    For the Mirman School, IQ test scores are required.
  • 8. Additional Documents

    All applicant files must be complete. Member schools will not make a decision or offer financial assistance unless the file is complete. Submission of the following documents to the Independent School Alliance will be required:
    • ISEE scores
    • Letters of recommendation
    • Report card for Fall grading period
    • Official transcript
    • Supplemental Financial Assistance Application
  • 9. Financial Assistance Application

    Depending on the school, families may be required to apply for financial assistance via different services, such as FAST, SSS, or others. The process may vary depending on the service. It is important to apply for the correct service and submit any additional documents the school may require.
  • 10. Student Advocacy

    Families will complete a form regarding school choices in order of preference. Our counselors will contact schools directly to advocate on behalf of families according to this list.
  • 11. School Decision Notifications

    Families will be notified of school decisions in March. We ask families to complete an online questionnaire regarding enrollment decisions and admissions process experience with both the Independent School Alliance and individual schools.

    Pasadena Schools: 
    Notification letters will be sent on Friday, March 8, 2019

    Grades 9-12:
    Notification letters will be sent on Friday, March 8, 2019
    Email notifications can be sent starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2019
    Replies will be due at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2019
     
    Grades K-8: 
    Notification letters will be sent on Friday, March 15, 2019
    Email notifications can be sent starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019
    Replies will be due at 12 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019
