Masiela Lusha

Masiela Lusha is an award-winning film and television actress, author, and humanitarian. While Masiela has appeared in over 30 film and TV projects, she is best known for her role as Carmen Lopez on the Emmy-nominated ABC/Warner Bros. series, George Lopez.
As an author, Masiela was named among the Top Ten Talented Poets of North America and was later felicitated by former President, Bill Clinton. She has written four poetry volumes: Inner Thoughts, Drinking the Moon, The Living Air, and Boopity Boop Writes her First Poem. In The Living Air, Masiela wrote two poems in German. She also translated Saint Theresa's poetry and meditations from Albanian to English.
Additionally, Masiela has written two novels: The Besa and The Journals of Olympia Pole. For her work, Luminescent Night, Masiela earned The International Library of Poetry's Editor's Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry.
Galvanized through her personal experience as a refugee, Masiela dedicated much of her life to humanitarian efforts. Masiela was appointed spokesperson for Scholastic's national Read for Life initiative. She later served as the national spokesperson for ABC's Great American Bake Sale, a hunger relief program. Through the Los Angeles' Mayor's office, Masiela has supported local charitable initiatives on behalf of the city. Globally, Masiela has acted as an ambassador to three youth causes. In 2010, she was appointed Goodwill Ambassador to Sentebale. In 2013, Masiela joined the World Assembly of Youth ("WAY") as their first Goodwill Ambassador. Recognized with consultative status I with the United Nations, WAY is a body of national youth councils focused on children's issues, including gender equality, health, and cultural tolerance. Masiela later committed her efforts and platform to Athgo, a cause which supports international youth entrepreneurship and global innovation. As a board member, Masiela dedicated her work to Uncommon Good. While less than half of children in Los Angeles' lowest socioeconomic class attend college, the Uncommon Good mentorship program has a 100% success rate in college acceptances.
Masiela graduated high school two years early, at 15, and earned an English degree, with a concentration in Creative Writing, at the University of California Los Angeles.
